A 33-year-old businessman was arrested by the police for transporting several boxes of suspected fake cigarettes in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija.
San Antonio police chief Maj. Rommel C. Nabong said the suspect, of Sitio Bantug, Bgy. San Francisco, was flagged down on San Antonio-Zaragosa Road at 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday.
The operation was part of the intensified “Oplan Sita” operations by the Ecija PNP.
The trader, who was driving a silver Kia Pride sedan, was found transporting two large boxes. When asked by lawmen to open the boxes, it was discovered that it contained several boxes of alleged fake cigarettes consisting of 50 reams of H&P and 23 reams of Two Moon cigarettes valued at P17,290.
Police arrested the suspect after he failed to present the required documents for the cargo.
Appropriate charges are being readied for filing before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office against the arrested businessman.
The suspect’s vehicle and the confiscated items were brought to the police station for documentation and proper disposition.
