HOUSE Deputy Minority Leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Representative France Castro is calling for a comprehensive investigation into the reported anomalies within the Department of Education (DepEd) during Vice President Sara Duterte’s term as Education Secretary. The probe follows testimonies from DepEd officials regarding the distribution of cash envelopes and questionable utilization of confidential funds.
Rep. Castro emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The allegations of cash gifts and misuse of funds at DepEd are deeply troubling and demand a thorough investigation. It is crucial to uphold integrity and transparency in our education system, which is fundamental to the development of our youth.”
Referring to the testimonies, Castro remarked, “The revelations by DepEd officials about receiving cash envelopes from high-ranking officials are alarming. Such practices, if true, constitute a serious breach of public trust and must be addressed with utmost urgency.”
She further highlighted the broader implications of these allegations, noting, “The education sector is already grappling with significant issues, including the perennial shortage of classrooms. Instead of addressing these challenges, the alleged corruption further undermines the quality of education that Filipino students deserve.”
Rep. Castro also called on her fellow lawmakers to support the investigation. “We must unite in demanding accountability and ensuring that the resources meant for education are used appropriately and transparently. Our educators, students, and the Filipino people deserve nothing less,” she concluded.
