Cotabato cop arrested, sacked for beating live-in partner

A 30-year-old policeman in Cotabato was arrested by his fellow lawmen for beating his live-in partner.

Police Regional Office 12 director Brig. Gen. Jimili L. Macaraeg has ordered the filing of criminal and administrative charges against accused policeman Cpl. Louie Jay Lumancas of the Magpet Municipal Police Station in Cotabato.

The accused cop was caught on viral video beating his live-in partner Shaira Basmayor Kahar inside Canapia Subdivision in Kidapawan City late Monday and even aiming his pistol on her nape.

Lumancas, a resident of Bgy. Gubatan in Magpet, was immediately arrested by members of the Kidapawan City Police Station.

An investigation showed that the woman was terribly beaten after she confronted the accused for concealing his marital status.

Macaraeg said that the suspect was placed under the custody of the Kidapawan City Police Station and taken to the Cotabato Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Kidapawan City for inquest proceeding.

The official said that the suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9262 or the Violence against Women and their Children Act.
