By Justine Rich Talusan

SOME 523 personnel from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) and the Correctional Institution for Women-Mindanao underwent  a mandatory drug test.

The drug test was conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, DPPF, and the Provincial Health Office.

The drug testing was in accordance wth the campaign of the Bureau of Corrections for a drug-free workplace, the Republic Act  9165 or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002, and the Republic Act 6713 also known as the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees.

“The use of illegal and prohibited drugs is a serious concern in our society as it leads to substance dependency which poses dangers not only to the users but to the community. It may also lead to social, physical, emotional, and work-related problems. Hence rules and regulations have been issued by the government for strict compliance of all its agencies and the general public.” the BuCor said.

According to BuCor, the drug test for PDLs was conducted with thorough observance of the Bureau’s mandate, provisions of the United Nations Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, and guidelines of the Commission on Human Rights.
