Dismissed cop gunned down in Quezon

A POLICEMAN removed from the service yesterday was shot dead by a lone gunman in Tayabas City, Quezon.
Victim Kim Carlo Lavado, 36, of Bgy. Mateuna, suffered bullet wounds in the body and died on the spot.
PSMS Arthur Real, the officer on case., said prior to the killing, Lavado was having drinks with some friends in Bgy. San Isidro Zone 1, Tayabas City.
Around 1:45 a.m. yesterday, Lavado stood up and went several meters away to urinate when the suspect, who was armed with a cal. 9mm pistol, approached and shot him before fleeing.
Recovered at the crime scene was an empty shell for cal. 9mm pistol, two live ammunition, two fired bullets and a magazine, all for the same caliber.
Tayabas City police commander Lt. Col. Noel Divino said Lavado was dismissed from the service in 2018 over a murder case.
It was learned that the victim was among the policemen who testified against dismissed Lt. Col. Mark Joseph Laygo, the then commander of Tayabas City Police Station and his men, Patrolman Robert Legazpi and Cpl. Lonald Sumalpong, who were also dismissed from the police service.
The three were accused over the murder of Christian Gayeta, 21, son of Sariaya, Quezon Mayor Marcelo Gayeta and his bodyguard Christopher Manalo, 38, in March 2019.
The suspected cops maintained that the incident was a result of a shootout but witnesses disclosed that it was a rubout.
