The Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region distributed a total of 140 barangay health station (BHS) packages to capacitate primary care facilities of the 6th district of Pangasinan.
The BHS package is composed of a dressing cart, minor surgical set, mechanical bed, spine board, EENT diagnostic set, weighing scale with BMI calculator, weighing scale for infant, fetal doppler and examining table, medicine cabinet, instrument cabinet funded through the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) with a total amount of ₱28M.
“The equipment will be given to barangay health stations for them to be fully equipped and be able to provide primary care services to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate illnesses and diseases at the local level, safely and effectively,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated during the turn-over ceremony held in Tayug, Pangasinan on March 4, 2023.
“Our BHS (barangay health stations) act as the frontline providers of public health services at the municipal and barangay levels kaya dapat mayroon silang kumpletong kagamitan para makapagbigay ng tamang serbisyo. We also need to cope with the increasing population in order to provide them the needed health care services, that is why we are focusing on the development of primary care facilities.”
“Kailangang ma-upgrade natin ang ating primary care facilities upang magkaroon ng functional na service delivery network para ma-maximize natin ang health resources ng bawat health facility,” she emphasized.
The role of BHD is to provide preventive, regulatory, medical care services in the municipality including general consultations, dental services, maternal health, family planning, nutrition, immunization, laboratory examination health promotion/education, environmental sanitation services, communicable/ non-communicable disease control and community-based rehabilitation services.
“A BHS must ensure that health care is delivered in a way that is centered on the patient’s needs and must respects their health preferences. Kaya importante na ang mga pasyente ay magkaroon ng informed choice para sa kanilang health preference,” Sydiongco added.
The medical equipment for RHUs were initiatives of the 6th Congressional District under Congressman Marlyn L. Primicias-Agabas.
