DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos region extended its commendation and support to Dr. Jose B. Orosa III of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMHMC) for receiving this year’s Filipino Physician of Distinction – Clinical Practice Category during the 33rd Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards held at the SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga on May 18, 2024.
Dr. Orosa is the Chief of the Medical Professional Staff and Chair of Strategic Management of the MMMHMC.
The Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Award is an annual search for outstanding Filipino physicians who embody the ideals of the national hero in their lives, practice, and service. It is given by the Philippine Medical Association (PMA), PMA Foundation for Professional Medical Advancement Inc., in partnership with United Laboratories, Inc. to inspire both physicians and non-physicians to perpetuate the national hero’s memory.
The award has five categories namely – academe, clinical practice, community service, government service, and research with two finalists per category vying for the first place.
A winner gets a trophy, a Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Awards Medallion, a cash prize of P50,000.00, and P50,000.00 worth of Unilab medicines that will be donated by the awardee to a charitable institution of his/her choice.
Dr. Jose B. Orosa III completed his MD degree as valedictorian at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in 1985. He has a Master’s in Public Management Health Governance Track and a Gold medalist as a DOH scholar in 2021. He initiated the creation of ENT care at MMHMC and its subsequent approval and inclusion by DOH in Universal Health care through his advocacy in PSO- HNS.
He was also awarded as an Outstanding ORL-HNS Specialist in Leadership in an Organization during the 66th PSO-HNS Annual Convention held at Edsa Shangri-la Hotel on December 3, 2022.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco applauded Dr. Orosa’s dedication and commitment to patient care. “We are honored by the recognition and awards you received. This award set a standard for us and give us a clear goal to continue striving forward toward achieving our goal and continue to do our best for the benefit of our patients.”
