A FIRE on Tuesday killed a 6-year-old girl in Isla Verde, Davao City
The victim was identified as Mary Aly Rose Ilagan of Purok 5, Bgy. 23-C Isla Verde, Davao City.
Ilagan suffered third-degree burns and died while undergoing treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.
Her father, Journey Dave Ilagan, who sustained second degree burns, is being treated at the same hospital.
An investigation showed the fire started at the house of the victims at Purok 5, Bgy. 23-C Isla Verde, Davao City at 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday
The child, who was then sleeping when the fire broke out, was trapped inside their burning house.
The father tried to rescue his daughter but was prevented by the raging blaze. He sustained burnt wounds.
Based on the initial investigation, the fire was caused by an unattended candle.
Fire Officer 3 Michael Tonzo Gamut said at least 50 houses were destroyed by the fire.
The affected families were temporarily sheltered at the covered court of the Mini-Forest.
