A 10-YEAR-OLD girl on Sunday was roasted to death after she was trapped in their burning house in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
Nagiel Bañacia, Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head, identified the fatality as Farrel Collantes, of Bgy. Poblacion Lapu-Lapu City.
The victim failed to escape the raging blaze because the steel door where she was residing was locked.
The victim was sleeping when the fire broke out at 3 a.m. on Sunday.
Rutchele Vergara, guardian of the 10-year-old girl, said when Collantes was awakened by the extreme heat, she ran to the other side of the house where an exit door or gate was located but the gate supposedly for emergencies was locked with a steel bar on the outside.
The fire quickly engulfed the entire house which also serves as stall for ukay-ukay selling slippers, curtains and RTW clothes.
Authorities are investigating what started the fire.
