POLICE arrested a former town mayor of Paete in Laguna for alleged violation of the Omnibus Election Code on overspending.
Nabbed was Elmoise Afurong, 56, a resident of Bonifacio St., Bgy. Longos, Kalayaan, Laguna, who ran in the May 19, 2022 local and national elections.
According to Laguna OIC Provincial Director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio, Afurong was arrested based on a warrant of arrest issued by Judge Ma Lourdes Santos Mendoza of the Regional Trial Court, Fourth Judicial Region, Branch 33, Siniloan, Laguna.
Afurong was charged with violation of Section 100, as amended by Section 13 of Republic Act 7166, in relation to Section 262 of Batas Pambansa 881 or the Omnibus Election Code (overspending).
The former mayor is now detained at the Paete Police Station.
