THE City of Calamba commemorated the 129th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on December 30, 2025, with a meaningful Rizal Day celebration attended by provincial and local leaders, government officials, and youth representatives. Governor Sol Aragones joined the event held in Rizal’s hometown, underscoring the continued relevance of the national hero’s ideals of patriotism, courage, and hope for the Filipino people.
The commemoration was conducted with the full support of Calamba City Mayor Roseller Rizal and was attended by city councilors, members of the Sangguniang Kabataan, educators, and various government employees. In his message, Mayor Rizal emphasized the hope that Dr. Jose Rizal carried even in his final moments.
“Tayo po ay naniniwala na namatay si Rizal na may pag-asa sa puso. Pag-asa na tayo ay babangon muli,” Mayor Rizal said.
Governor Aragones, who attended the Rizal Day commemoration in Calamba for the first time, expressed her gratitude for being part of the historic occasion and reflected on the importance of remembering the country’s heroes.
“Pumanaw na ang ating mga tinatawag na bayani, pero sa kabila ng kanilang pagpanaw ay nag-iwan sila ng alaala na dahilan kung bakit natin ginugunita ang Rizal Day ngayon,” said Governor Aragones, highlighting how Rizal’s legacy continues to guide the nation.
She further shared that heroism is not only found in history books but also in everyday life. According to the governor, modern-day heroes include teachers, hospital employees, and health workers who dedicate their time and efforts to ensure proper care for patients, as well as parents and public servants who tirelessly serve their families and communities with compassion and commitment.
During the program, Governor Aragones also announced an upcoming infrastructure development for Calamba City.
“Itatayo na po ang 5 storey building sa JP Rizal dito sa Calamba,” she said, adding that the project will be funded through public funds. She emphasized that the people of Laguna owe no personal debt to her, as the project is made possible through the taxes paid by the citizens.
The announcement reinforced the provincial government’s commitment to inclusive development inspired by the principles and legacy of Dr. Jose Rizal.
The Rizal Day commemoration concluded with a renewed call for unity and public service, as officials and participants were reminded to uphold the values of patriotism, integrity, and selfless service embodied by Dr. Jose Rizal. The event reinforced Calamba City’s role as the birthplace of the national hero and highlighted the shared responsibility of leaders and citizens to continue nation building inspired by his legacy.
