THE House of Representatives on Monday adopted Resolution (HR) 1414, upholding the integrity and honor of the House of Representatives and expressing appreciation, solidarity, and support for the leadership of Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Senior Deputy Speaker (SDS) Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. sponsored the measure, hailing the strong leadership of Speaker Romualdez in defending the institution’s dignity, integrity, and reputation, which the House, acting as a Committee of the Whole House, adopted later on.
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez lauded his fellow lawmakers for their achievements, particularly the passage of 20 Legislative Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority measures three months ahead of the deadline, as well as the 2024 General Appropriations Bill (GAB).
He also stood his ground and remained steadfast to his commitment in defending the integrity of the institution. “Let not our hard work be undermined by a dissatisfied few whose only intention is to sow divisiveness. Instead, let our outputs speak for our loyalty to our country, the constitution, and the entire Filipino people,” he said.
Speaker Romualdez then asked all parties to prioritize the enactment of laws that will address the needs of Filipinos. “Let us focus on the tasks at hand. When our goals are aligned, we could be an excellent force, propelling our country into unbridled progress. Let us ensure that our actions will promote development in all spheres of both the government and society,” he urged.
SDS Gonzales pushed for the adoption of HR 1414 “to manifest to Speaker Romualdez that [the lawmakers] stand firmly behind him, preserving the honor and integrity of the House and pledge [their] allegiance and unity.”
Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” Dalipe sponsored the measure at the floor, saying that if House Members continue to work together, they could be more effective in alleviating poverty, building a stronger future, and legislating policies that address the country’s most pressing issues. “While we recognize that legitimate criticisms are but part of the organs of democracy, we are unfazed. We continue to improve the delivery of our consitutionally-mandated obligation to serve the people through legislation,” he added.
Several congressmen and women also manifested their support for Speaker Romualdez, including representatives from the the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), National Unity Party (NUP), Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), Nacionalista Party (NP), Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc. (PCFI), and Partido Navoteño.
