HOUSE Deputy Majority Leader Francisco Paolo Ortega V in a press conference on Thursday dispelled speculations that the recent dinner with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was about impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Ortega described the event as a simple gathering to present a resolution of support for the President from the House of Representatives.
“Basically, dinner saka prinisent po ‘yong resolution. Konting kwentuhan then about an hour tapos kanya-kanyang uwi na po,” he said.
Ortega also noted that the majority’s current focus remains on the ongoing hearings, but it is their duty to accept all the impeachment complaints as part of their constitutional mandate.
He added the majority has not discussed any impeachment issues collectively, despite several potentially impeachable matters that arose during the previous hearings.
Ortega provided updates on committee meetings, confirming that both the quad committee, as well as the Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability would still continue the hearings.
He also clarified that the quad comm closed-door hearing on Thursday is to consolidate all the numerous House measures that were filed in relation to the topics being discussed by the quad committee.
Ortega assured the public that the House will continue its legislative work in the last two weeks of the session before adjournment. He emphasized the House’s commitment to congressional hearings and dedication to serving the people.
