BUREAU of Immigration (BI) Intelligence operatives apprehended an Indian man found to be overstaying in the Philippines.
The man, identified as Shah Gaurav Mukesh, 44, was arrested last February 29 on the strength of a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
Tansingco ordered Mukesh’s arrest after receiving information that the foreigner was evading immigration authorities and have not extended his visa since 2019.
BI Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan, Jr. said that operatives conducted an initial investigation and confirmed Mukesh’s presence in the area.
He was found by agents living in a residential area in Bacoor, where he was promptly arrested in coordination with barangay officials.
He was turned over to the BI’s facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig as immigration charges are prepared against him.
Tansingco warned foreign nationals who continue disregarding immigration laws that they face arrest and deportation.
“We have more than 60 offices nationwide, and have even opened up an online portal to facilitate compliance,” said Tansingco. “Those who make a mockery of our laws are not welcome in the country,” he added.
