THE Land Transportation Office Region 6 (LTO‑6) has issued a show cause order against a police officer involved in a vehicular accident that led to the death of a Pharmacy student in Iloilo City.
LTO-6 Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II approved the issuance of the order following the recommendation of Ms. Shiela Mae Alulod, Chief of the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit.
Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu supported the issuance of the show cause order, emphasizing that it forms part of due process to allow the respondent an opportunity to be heard before the administrative proceedings are resolved.
The incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on June 4, 2025, along Diversion Road in Barangay Dungon B, Jaro. The police officer was driving a Toyota HiAce van —an ambulance assigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service of Police Regional Office 6 —when it hit the 18-year-old student, who was then crossing a pedestrian lane.
The victim, a Pharmacy student at the University of San Agustin, was critically injured and later died on June 11 due to multiple injuries.
The show cause order cites a possible violation of Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, which prohibits reckless driving that endangers public safety. The police driver has been given five (5) days from receipt of the notice to submit a written explanation as to why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked.
Failure to comply within the given timeframe, the LTO warned, will be treated as a waiver of the driver’s right to due process, allowing the agency to proceed with its decision based on available evidence.
The move is part of a broader push to uphold discipline and accountability on the road—especially among government personnel—championed by LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, and Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
