TAGAYTAY CITY — IN compliance with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to take decisive action against reckless motorists, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has placed under alarm six high-performance sports cars caught racing on public roads in a now-viral video.
LTO acting chief, Atty. Greg Pua said they are now in the process of identifying all the drivers involved in the incident which he described as endangering the lives of road users in the area.
The process of identification, he said, starts with the issuance of show cause orders against the registered owners of the six sports cars—two Mazda MX-5, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro and a BMW M4.
“The SCOs were already issued to them. And part of this process is for them to identify and bring with them the drivers of these sports cars. Maaring yung registered owner ang mga yun, o ibang mga driver. At wala silang kawala dito dahil may video,” said Pua.
“Maling-mali ang ginawa ng mga taong ito dahil may tamang lugar sa mga ganung gawain. Ipinagawa ng pamahalaan ang mga kalsada para sa comfort of mobility ng mga tao, at hindi para sa mga pasaway na gaya ng mga driver na ito sa viral video,” he added.
In the SCO signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Chief Renante Melitante, the registered owners are asked to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Once the designated driver of the sports car is identified, the 90-day suspension of their driver’s license will immediately take effect, according to Melitante.
Pua, for his part, said the registered owners were asked to bring with them the registration papers and other documents relating to the sports cars for review and verification.
“Let this serve as a warning that we will not tolerate this behavior on the road—naka-sports car ka man o motor o tricycle. Umayos tayo sa daan, yun ang gawin natin araw-araw para wala kayong problema sa LTO,” said Pua.
