THE registered owner of both the passenger jeepney and a dump truck and viral head-on collision in Antipolo City over the weekend were directed to appear before the Land Transportation Office (LTO) amid the ongoing investigation into the incident that left at least nine people injured.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said both the registered owners of the passenger jeepney with license plate TXF222, and the Howo dump truck with license plate NEJ4224 were directed to bring with them the drivers of the vehicles when the accident occurred.
“We want to know the circumstances that led to the incident, particularly on why the passenger jeepney overshot the lane that led to this accident,” said Asec Mendoza.
In the viral video, the passenger jeepney was seen overshooting the lane on the curve side of the Sumulong Highway in Antipolo City which resulted in the vehicle hitting the truck that was travelling in the opposite direction.
The impact also resulted in the truck hitting what appears to be an e-trike which was travelling at the right portion of the truck.
“The Show Cause Orders were already sent to the registered owners and we expect compliance from their part,” said Asec Mendoza, adding that the probe is in line with the instruction of DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon to keep all roads safe.
In the SCO signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division head Renante Melitante, the registered owners were asked to explain in notarized writing why they should not be held liable for employing reckless drivers.
The drivers, on the other hand, are facing charges of Reckless Driving (Sec. 48 of R.A. No. 4136) Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle (Sec. 27 of R.A. No. 4136).
“Failure to appear and submit your written answer will compel this Office to resolve the matter based on the available evidence on record,” the SCO read
