THE Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, summoned the registered owner and the driver of sports car who was using a cellular phone while driving on the highway.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the driver of the Porsche sports car was apparently creating a content for social media using the expensive motor vehicle.
The video of the incident is already going viral on social media and Asec Mendoza said it was a clear violation of road safety rules.
“Anuman ang klase ng sasakyan na minamaneho ay dapat matuto pa rin tayong sumunod sa mga batas trapiko. If the driver is indeed a content creator, then there is this responsibility for him to set a good example to his followers,” said Asec Mendoza.
‘We already suspended the driver’s license of the identified driver for 90 days pending the result of the investigation,” he added.
In the show cause order (SCO) signed by LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante, it said the driver is liable for at least three charges— reckless driving, violation of the Anti-Distracted Driving Act (Sec. 4 of R.A. No. 10913) and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle (Sec. 27 (a) of R.A. No. 4136).
The last violation has a maximum penalty of revocation of driver’s license.
Both the registered owner and the driver were asked to appear before the LTO Central Office and submit an explanation why they should not be held administratively liable.
Aside from suspension of driver’s license, the Porsche was also placed under alarm.
