
A MAGNITUDE 6.6 earthquake yesterday shook Sarangani Island in Davao Occidental.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake occurred around 4:02 a.m. yesterday some 377 kms. southeast of Sarangani Island.
The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 114 kms..
Intensity 2 was felt in the nearby municipalities of Glan and Kiamba in Sarangani province and Tupi in South Cotabato.
Intensity I was recorded in the town of Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental; Maitum and Malapatan in Sarangani province; and Koronadal City and General Santos City in South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said damage and aftershocks are not expected since the epicenter of the quake was located somewhere in Indonesia.
