IN observance of National Mental Health Month, the Quezon City Government further intensified its mental health initiatives through the integration of psychosocial support and crisis intervention in the city’s Helpline 122.
QCitizens or those individuals currently in QC who are experiencing mental health concerns and wish to seek help simply need to dial “122” on their phones. They will immediately be referred to a crisis responder who will answer and assist them.
The Mental Health Hotline is available 24/7.
“May mga pagkakataon na hindi na natin kinakaya ang mga suliranin at isipin na kinakaharap natin sa buhay kaya minsan, kailangan natin ng makakausap. Ang ating responders na maabot sa pamamagitan ng Hotline 122 ay handang makinig at umalalay sa inyo, hanggang sa gumaan at maging mabuti ang inyong pakiramdam,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
Crisis responders were trained by the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) on suicide and crisis management. They were accompanied by health workers who underwent training on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Psychological First Aid.
Three sets of teams are on duty everyday to ensure that callers are provided with immediate interventions in times of crisis.
“Malaking bahagi ng pangangalaga sa sarili ang pagbibigay-halaga sa kalusugang pangkaisipan. ‘Yan ang tinitiyak natin sa Quezon City, kaya lahat ng programa at inisyatibo ay sinisikap nating iayon sa pangangailangan ng bawat sektor, at sinisiguro na napapakinggan natin ang suhestyon at hinaing nila,” the mayor added.
Further, the Quezon City Health Department trained over 370 barangay officials and staff on psychological first aid to assist residents process and overcome traumatic experiences.
City Health Workers in health centers are also conducting lectures on mental health awareness among their patients.
Quezon City is the first city to establish its own Mental Health Code, through City Ordinance 3158-2022.
Mental Wellness Access Hubs are also established in communities to assess, diagnose, and disburse free prescription medication.
