Manila, Philippines — Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has deployed the Philippines’ first mobile switchgear, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen the country’s power distribution infrastructure and improve electricity service reliability.
The innovative equipment is designed to support substation upgrades, enhance operational flexibility, and ensure a more stable and dependable electricity supply for customers.
Unlike conventional switchgear installations, the mobile equipment can be transported and deployed across different locations, allowing Meralco to respond more efficiently to emergencies and address urgent power infrastructure requirements.
Its mobility also enables the power distributor to carry out scheduled equipment replacements, maintenance activities, and critical substation upgrades while minimizing service interruptions.
The deployment is expected to provide Meralco with greater flexibility in managing its distribution network, particularly when responding to equipment failures and other operational challenges.
The initiative underscores Meralco’s continuing efforts to modernize its power infrastructure and strengthen the resilience of its distribution system amid growing electricity demand and the need for more reliable power services.
By introducing this technology, Meralco takes another step toward building a stronger, more flexible, and more reliable power distribution network in the Philippines.
