
METRO Top Cop, PMGen Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. together with Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna Pangan and PCol Arnold Thomas Ibay spearheaded the Send-Off Ceremony of deployed personnel for Traslacion 2024 at the Quirino Grandstand Manila on January 6, 2024.
Nartatez guaranteed the PNP’s commitment to secure and ensure public safety on the said activity. “ We are committed to give our best, and I assure you that with the PNP Leadership, other agencies and Local Government in partnership with the PNP will be supporting this undertaking.”
With an estimated crowd of 2.3M, a total of 15,276 personnel will be deployed on the peak of the activity on January 9 to January 10, 2024. Other Units to augment the deployment of troops will be coming from the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Police Regional Office 3 (PRO-3), Police Regional Office 4A (PRO-4A), Special Action Force (SAF), Maritime Unit, Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-NCRPO), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high yield Explosive (CBRNE), Regional Explosive and Canine Unit (RECU), Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and other forces that will be in charge of emergency responses.
Among the restrictions during the Traslacion include; No vendors are allowed within the vicinity of Quiapo Church; devotees are not allowed to wear hoodie jacket, caps, use of backpacks, water bottle, umbrella and raincoats, firecrakers or pyrotechnics, deadly or bladed weapons and intoxicated people are not allowed to join the procession. These measures are being implemented to preempt any untoward incident that would wreck the celebration of the festivity.
Further, “No Fly Zone and No Drone Zone” within the vicinity of Quirino Grandstand and Quiapo Church as well as routes of the procession from January 7, 2024 to January 10, 2024. While a “No Sail Zone” at the vicinity waters of South Harbor, Manila (near Quirino Grandstand) and Pasig River from 12:00AM of January 6, 2024, to 12:00 AM of January 10, 2024.
Suspension of Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR) within the City of Manila will be imposed effective 12:01 AM of January 8, 2024 to 12:01 AM of January 10, 2024. Likewise, Gun ban within the entire City of Manila will also be implemented from 7:00AM of January8,2024 to 7:00AM of January10,2024.
Moreover, the public is also advised that road closures will be enforced stating January8,2024 onwards. Re-routing will be enforced starting 9:00PM on January8,2024 onwards. The Traslacion, one of the country’s popular religious event involving the procession of the Black Nazarene statue from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church was canceled for the past years due to the pandemic.
