Negros cop killed, 2 hurt in clash with NPA rebels

A POLICEMAN on Wednesday night  was killed while two others were wounded in a gunbattle between security troops and a group of heavily-armed New People’s Army guerrillas in Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Killed was Cpl. Jaime Nuñez while the injured were  Capt. Jesus Alba, the deputy chief of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station, and Cpl. Dennis Nasis.

Members of the Calatrava Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 303rd Brigade were about to serve a warrant of arrest issued against suspected NPA members Darry Dayawan, Charity Amacan and several other in Bgy. Minapasok 9:40 a.m. on Wednesday when they were met with gunfire.

Follow-up operations are underway to arrest the rebels involved in the deadly gun attack.
