THE General Santos City Airport did not suffer any damage from Wednesday’s magnitude 7 earthquake that jolted Davao Occidental, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said yesterday.
CAAP General Santos manager Joel Gavina reported that normal operations continued at the airport since the earthquake.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) earlier logged the earthquake as magnitude 7.3, and later downgraded it to magnitude 7.
The tectonic quake struck 346 km southeast of Balut Island in Sarangani at 2:06 p.m. Wednesday.
Intensity 2 was felt in Glan, Maasim, and Malungon, Sarangani; Banga, City of Koronadal, Polomolok, Tampakan, and Tupi, South Cotabato; City of General Santos; Kalamansig, Palimbang, and President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.
Phivolcs said aftershocks are possible from this earthquake.
CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio, however, said passengers need not worry about their flights as operations remain normal in the area.(PNA)
