PERSONNEL of the Office of the Vice President (OVP) satellite office visited the Zamboanga City Jail (ZCJ) and reminded that their commitment to help the welfare programs of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) remains.
OVP-Zamboanga headed by its manager Michael Angelo Saavedra on Monday engaged PDLs in an interface discussion, where problems and other concerns were raised.
Saavedra reiterated the OVP’s promise to continue helping the jail bureau in its programs for the welfare of jailbirds under its care.
“Vice President Sara Duterte established the OVP satellite offices to bring the services of government closest to our people,” he said.
On her first day of office, VP Duterte opened satellite offices in different parts of the country to ensure easy access to services to the people, including the PDLs.
OVP provides various forms of assistance for medicines, hospitalization, burial, livelihood and disaster relief.
“Today, in the office of the Vice President, please know that our commitment to help remains,” Saavedra stressed.
He then cited the ZCJ leadership under its warden Supt. Xavier Solda for his efforts to introduce innovations that improve and upgrade the many facets of management in the facility.
“This reformatory center, including the City of Zamboanga, is fortunate to have you, manage this institution,” he told Solda, who expressed gratitude to the OVP for the attention being provided to the PDLs under his care.
“We really appreciate the Office of the Vice President for extending their services behind bars, helping the poorest of the poor and the most marginalized in our society under our care,” Solda said.
BJMP chief Director Ruel Rivera encouraged the ZCJ to continue with its efforts to bring impactful reforms for the PDLs, particularly in education, livelihood, health and paralegal support services.
