THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) distributed around Php 3.5 million in financial aid to 67 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from the National Capital Region (NCR) through its AKSYON Fund, a comprehensive support system for OFWs and their families needing immediate assistance.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, alongside Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, led the distribution of the financial assistance to the OFW beneficiaries during a simple ceremony today, March 24, 2025, at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City.
The AKSYON Fund, or the Agarang Kalinga at Saklolo para sa mga OFWs na Nangangailangan (AKSYON) Fund, is a special fund allocated in response to the urgent and critical assistance needed by OFWs who are facing multiple challenges while working away from home and by their families who are left behind.
“Hindi nagiging issue ngayon yung pagbibigay ng tulong pinansyal, legal, o medical assistance sa ating mga OFWs because of the full support of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., at ng ating Kongreso to protecting their rights and welfare. The AKSYON Fund is our comprehensive support system to help our OFWs and their families in need,” Secretary Cacdac said.
Tourism Secretary Frasco, meanwhile, emphasized the huge impact of the DMW’s unwavering commitment to protecting the welfare and interest of OFWs around the world as she recalled the help and support from the DMW and OWWA in the repatriation of around 9,000 OFWs back in Cebu when she was the mayor during the time of the pandemic.
“On a personal note though, the work of the DMW, and OWWA in particular, has had a great impact on our communities in the country as well as having impacted the rest of the world. So thank you, Sec. Hans, for the work that you and your team have been doing and on a bigger scale, thank you to the DMW,” Secretary Frasco said.
The DMW, through its AKSYON Fund, not only provides financial assistance to OFWs and their families in need but also provides legal, medical, and repatriation assistance, including evacuation and rescue operations and other emergency interventions to protect the rights and dignity of OFWs.
The latest distribution of the AKSYON Fund coincides with the celebration of National Women’s Month and underscores the DMW’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of OFWs, who remain essential contributors to the Philippine economy.
