
A 39-YEAR-OLD Indian national was arrested by operatives of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group for illegal possession of high-powered firearms and ammunition.
In a report to PNP chief Gen. Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., PNP-CIDG director Maj. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said the raid was conducted by officers from the CIDG – National Capital Region Field Unit amid their intensified effort to account for more illegal guns that could be used to sow violence in the streets.
Nabbed was Amith Prem Chandiramani, an Indian businessman residing at B36, L8, Phase 2, Amore at Portofino, a luxury subdivision in Bgy. Salawag in Dasmariñas City.
Police said prior to the conduct of the anti-weapons raid, the suspect, a naturalized Filipino citizen, figured in many trouble with the law, including firing his gun indiscriminately while under the influence of liquor, and gun-toting.
Armed with search warrants for violation of illegal possession of firearms and explosives issued by Judge Charito M. Macalintal-Sawali of the Tanauan City Regional Trial Court Branch 66 in Batangas, the CIDG -Southern Metro Manila District Field Unit men stormed the suspect’s residence past 5 p.m. Thursday.
Seized were one caliber 9mm pistol with magazine containing six live ammunition; one Colt M4 cal. 5.56 assault rifle with two magazines containing 56 bullets; one 12-gauge shotgun; one STI cal. 40 pistol; one Glock 21 Generation 4 cal. .45 semi-automatic pistol; one Glock 43 cal. 9mm pistol; one M-26 fragmentation grenade with casing; and four boxes containing 122 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
