REELECTED TINGOG Party-list Representative Jude Acidre on Wednesday emphasized the need for fairness, integrity, and constitutional fidelity in the looming impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.
In a press conference, Acidre said the process should focus on accountability and not be derailed by legal technicalities.
“Ang worry ko lang sa totoo lang, with the proceeding as it is, sana hindi naman malunod sa technicality ang ating kagustuhang mabigyang linaw ang pananagutan sa pangalawang pinakamataas na lingkod bayan ng ating bansa,” Acidre said.
Amid the anticipated legal and political complexities surrounding the proceedings, Acidre expressed hope that both chambers of Congress would proceed with fairness and in the best interest of the public.
“We just hope that everything will be done in the spirit of fairness and integrity of the process,” he said.
He also reminded his fellow lawmakers of their sworn duty to uphold the country’s democratic institutions and legal processes.
“Katatapos lang namin manumpa lahat, to uphold, to support the Constitution of the Philippines,” he added.
He also stated that the 20th Congress is poised to act more efficiently on major reform measures, citing the extensive groundwork laid during the previous Congress.
These will include the proposed legislated wage hike and the repeal of Republic Act 8479 or the Oil Industry Deregulation Act of 1998, citing the extensive groundwork laid during the previous Congress.
Acidre, a principal author of the wage hike bill, dismissed claims that the House delayed its passage, pointing to their version proposing a P200 increase as proof of a strong commitment to meaningful reforms. Moreover, he also emphasized the need to build consensus on major policy measures.
“lt will be very unfair to really consider na sasabihin natin na tinagalan ng House. Kung makikita niyo ‘yong version po natin sa legislated wage hike, kung saan isa tayo sa mga pangunahing may akda, ay nagpapakita ng stronger commitment ng House na posible ang P200 legislated wage increase,” he said.
