HOUSE appropriations committee chairperson Rep. Zaldy Co voiced strong support for the Office of the President’s (OP) proposed 2025 budget during the budget briefing on Monday, September 9, 2024.
He cited OP’s vital role in national governance and commended its recent achievements, including the high-profile arrests of former Bamban mayor Alice Guo and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
“Congratulations to the Office of the President, the Philippine National Police, the military and all other civilian agencies that helped capture two of the most wanted personalities in our country. Thank you very much for your service,” he said.
Co acknowledged OP’s critical duty to coordinate and oversee the implementation of policies and programs under the Marcos administration. He stressed OP’s unique position as the highest executive authority and its responsibility for the daily administration of government, execution of laws, and protection of national interests.
The lawmaker noted the alignment between OP’s efforts in promoting economic stability, inclusive growth, and citizen welfare with the administration’s strategic agenda. He expressed confidence that the proposed budget would enable the OP to continue its essential work in policy formulation and safeguarding national interests.
The OP is requesting a P10.5-billion budget for 2025 to ensure effective execution of its mandate. Co reiterated his firm backing for the proposal, stating the need to support the OP through adequate funding due to its central role in the smooth functioning of the government and its service to the Filipino people.
The budget briefing was attended by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin and senior OP officials, who presented the budget and highlighted key programs and priorities for the coming year.
