A SPECIAL Investigation Task Group was created by the Quezon Police Provincial Office to investigate the broad daylight ambush of Infanta, Quezon Mayor Filipina Grace America last Monday.
According to Quezon police director Col. Joel Villanueva, who chairs the SITG, they have started conducting an in-depth investigation into the case and finding out the brains behind the attempt on the life of America.
“We have started checking the CCTV camera footages in the area while gathering information and looking for possible witnesses,” said Villanueva.
The official said all the offices composing the SITG are conducting a parallel investigation into the ambush.
Villanueva said it’s too early to conclude if the ambush was politically-motivated.
He expressed optimism that the incident will be resolved soon.
The 60-year-old mayor sustained a gunshot wound in the right arm after the car she was riding was peppered with bullets by still unidentified assailants.
America was rushed to Claro M. Recto Hospital and later airlifted to Medical City. She is now in stable condition.
The female mayor is running against Eriberto Escueta (NPC) and Ednon Verano (Independent) in the May 9 elections.
