AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration arrested in Mindanao a South Korean national wanted by authorities in Seoul for allegedly swindling a compatriot.
Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the arrested alien as 63-year-old Park Sang Hyun.
Operatives of the BI Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested the South Korean in Cagayan de Oro City on April 19.
Tansingco said the arresting agents were armed with a warrant of deportation, which he issued pursuant to a deportation order by the BI Board of Commissioners against Hyun in November last year.
“He will be deported as soon we have obtained the required clearances for his departure. Consequently, he is perpetually banned from re-entering the Philippines due to his inclusion in our Immigration blacklist of undesirable aliens,” the BI chief said.
BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Hyun is the subject of an arrest warrant issued in 2019 by a District Court in Incheon.
The Korean was charged for allegedly defrauding another Korean in 2017 of more than US$61,000. He was accused of reneging on his promise to deliver to the victim second-hand clothes that the latter intended to resell online.
“He is also an undocumented alien as a result of the cancellation of his passport by the Korean government,” Sy said.
The BI official said the arrested South Korean will be detained at the BI’s facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting his deportation to Korea.
