
Antique – A VAN driver was killed on-the-spot while 19 others suffered injuries after their vehicle slammed head-on with a passenger bus along the national highway in Barangay Fragante, Pandan, Antique, yesterday, May 19, 2025.
Police Lt. Allan Otis, deputy chief of the Pandan Municipal Police Station said that the van overshot the line of the Ceres bus while navigating a curve crashed right into the bus which caused it to swerve off the road and slam into a concrete house, damaging its front terrace and a concrete post.
He added that none of the residents inside the house were injured.
According to the CCTV footage obtained by Pandan MPS, the van was speeding and swerving erratically on a wet road due to early morning rain.
The Pandan Municipal Police Station (MPS) identified the driver of the van as Dioleto Nagor, 64 years old and a resident of Barangay Jumarap, Banga, Aklan. He was pinned inside his wrecked white tourist van.
The van was going to Pandan from Nabas, Aklan, while the Ceres Liner bus was bound for Kalibo and carrying 18 passengers and was driven by Arnel Amarillo, 48 years old, of Barangay San Francisco Sur, Tibiao, Antique.
Amarillo is currently under police custody pending further investigation and determining who will be held liable, for the incident.
A total of nine passengers were brought to Justice Calixto Zaldivar Memorial Hospital in Pandan, and the rest to were taken to a hospital in Kalibo, Aklan.
Most of the injured were discharged after receiving treatment and resumed their trip.
