SIX teenagers on Saturday drowned during a family outing on a beach in Camarines Sur.
Police Regional Office PRO-5 (Bicol) spokesperson Lt. Col. Malu Calubaquib identified the victims as Rhea Pino, 18; Rafael Pino, 18; and Regine Pino, of Naga City, Camarines Sur; Rizza Hermosa, 17; Jhona Hermosa, 17, of Goa, Camarines Sur, and another 16-year-old girl.
The six were declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
A 12-year-old was a lone survivor of the incident,
An investigation showed the victims, said to be cousins, were swimming on a beach in Bgy. Dolo in San Jose town, Camarines when they encountered big waves.
“They were playing by the current. When I checked them, they were already being pulled away,” said Gilbert Cea, uncle of the victims.
Cea immediately sought the help of some beachgoers and residents.
Members of the Talisay Port-based Coast Guard, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and local fire and police stations promptly responded to a request for rescue and retrieval operations.
