HOUSE of Representatives spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante, in a press conference on Tuesday, emphasized that unity among lawmakers has been crucial to the House of Representatives’ strong legislative performance, including the passage on third and final reading of key measures, such as the P200 wage hike and the extension of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials’ terms.
“Kung walang unity, mahirap itong mga accomplishments na ito. At patuloy natin na nakikita na nakatutok ang House of Representatives sa kanilang trabaho at tungkulin sa mamamayan,” Abante said.
She noted the support of at least 280 lawmakers for Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez continues to steer the chamber in the right direction.
Abante cited that the House has passed 61 out of the 64 Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) priority bills, and 27 out of 28 priority measures for the Third Regular Session.
“Hindi pa kasama dito ang iba pang priority measures ng Kamara at mga imbestigasyon na isinagawa,” she added.
Abante stressed that the House’s accomplishments reflect the strong and collective support of members from the different legislative districts across the country, and various party-list representatives.
“At least 280 members of Congress include not just members from Luzon but also 47 from Visayas and 53 from Mindanao and other members of the House of Representatives from the party-lists,” she said.
Abante also confirmed that the P200 wage hike bill has already been transmitted to the Senate and the House has already designated its representatives to the bicameral conference committee.
She also mentioned that several bicameral conference reports were ratified the previous night, including the Virology and Vaccine Institute of the Philippines, the E-Government Act, the Konektadong Pinoy Act and the measure liberalizing the lease of private lands.
The 19th Congress, she said, has logged one of the most productive sessions in its history, with a total of 13,867 measures filed and 280 landmark laws enacted under the leadership of Speaker Romualdez.
