THE “yes” votes prevailed in last Saturday’s plebiscite in Bacoor City, Cavite.
The plebiscite aims to merge and rename barangays in Bacoor.
According to the Commission on Elections, 29,285 or 90.44 percent of the total 32,380 individuals voted for “yes” while only 2,994 voted “no.”
The city has a total of 114,416 registered voters based on the official canvass released Sunday morning.
Thousands of voters did not mind the heavy rains and bad weather to exercise their right to choose their villages’ fate.
Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia, together with other members of the Comelec en banc and senior officials, personally visited the polling places in Talaba Elementary School, Maliksi Elementary School, Poblacion Elementary School and Bacoor Central Elementary School in Bgy. Alima and other precincts to monitor the events in the voting places.
Commissioner Aimee Ferolino and Cavite Provincial election officer Mico Morales-Castro manned the voting proceedings in Bacoor City Jail, where 70 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) casted their votes.
With the “yes” victory, the 73 barangays in Bacoor City will be reduced to 47. Forty-four villages will be merged into 18, while five others will be renamed.
The merging and renaming aims to ensure economic growth and development in the villages in Bacoor.
