
THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) facilitated the release and distribution of 42 Balikbayan Boxes to rightful OFW-owners on February 12, 2025 at a warehouse in Valenzuela City.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac during the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs hearing on February 4, 2025 committed to assist OFWs in locating and claiming their delayed and mishandled balikbayan boxes, in cooperation with the Bureau of Customs. This is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr to provide all the necessary assistance to the OFWs’ on their concerns.
The DMW, together with its attached agency, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) picked up the 42 boxes for scheduled transport to OFWs in Cavite, Batangas, and Negros Occidental.
Last year, the DMW assisted in the delivery of 9,997 balikbayan boxes.
DMW Assistant Secretaries Venecio Legaspi, Francis Ron De Guzman, and Foreign Stakeholders Relations and Engagement Bureau Director Jun Aguilar, led the coordination efforts to guarantee the prompt release of the packages to OFWs and their families.
Aside from assisting in the delivery of mishandled balikbayan boxes, the DMW also provides AKSYON Fund assistance to the victims of the balikbayan boxes scam.
