FIVE teenagers were arrested by operatives for alleged carnapping in Biñan City, Laguna.
Laguna police provincial director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio yesterday said the names of the suspects were withheld for being minors.
Silvio said the young suspects are all residents of Biñan City.
The five were caught during a joint pursuit operation of the Laguna police on Sunday.
Biñan City police chief Lt. Col. Virgilio Jopia said that prior to the arrest, the owner of the car went to the police station and reported that his vehicle was carnapped.
Personnel of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A Motorcycle Team and the Laguna Provincial Highway Patrol Team immediately launched a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the suspects at Phoenix Fuel Station in Bgy. Canlalay, Biñan City.
It was learned that the young suspects planned to sell the car they stole but failed when they were cornered by policemen following information relayed by a concerned citizen.
Recovered from the suspects were the stolen Toyota Altis and an iPhone 12 Promax owned by the victim.
The suspects were turned over to the office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Bahay Pag-Asa and were charged with violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Law of 2016.
The Laguna top cop said the provincial police will continue to implement the fight against criminality in the entire province to carry out the directive of Police Regional Office 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Carlito Gaces to intensify operations and suppress all types of criminality.
Silvio reminded parents to always guide their children so that they don’t get involved in such incident.
