FIFTY-FOUR former members of the New People’s Army operating in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region surrendered to the authorities in Laguna.
The former rebels yielded to the Regional Mobile Force Batallion-4A and were formally received yesterday in a simple ceremony held at Camp Guillermo Sakay in Los Baños, Laguna.
They also turned over firearms, ammunition and subversive documents.
Authorities said the ex-rebels will be enrolled under the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) for them to avail of the benefits offered by the government, including housing and employment.
The surrender came during yesterday’s commemoration of the Communist Party of the Philippines – New People’s Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) 54th founding anniversary.
