AN MRI guided Tulip Brachytherapy on a Cervical Cancer patient was done at the Calamba Cancer Center by Dr. Saldy Villanueva a Gynecologic Oncologist, who is also the Program Director of CCC, with Dr. Joel Resubal, the Chief Radiation Oncologist and Anesthesiologist Dr. Janeese Navasero.
The procedure is the first in Calabarzon, as well in the country.
MRI guided Brachytherapy is a mode of cancer treatment through insertion of radioactive implants directly into the tumor, thereby allowing delivery of higher doses of radiation to tumors while sparing toxicity to surrounding normal tissues.
