
Tanauan City Women’s Council received a training on disinfection products processing from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Batangas as a technology support intervention in their pursuit to establish a sustainable community enterprise for their women members, held at Collantes Hall, Tanauan Institute, Tanauan City, Batangas.
The disinfection products trained to the participants were liquid hand soap and hand sanitizer. The Industrial Technology Development Institute of DOST (DOST-ITDI) developed the technologies used during the training. Mr. Jan Rotsen Kyle A. Delos Santos, Mr. Rudy Leo Quinquinito, Ms. Shierrie Mae Valencia, and Mr. Romulo Estrella, from the Pharmaceutical Section of the Chemicals and Energy Division of DOST-ITDI, facilitated the training.
The training covered discussions on the technical components of liquid hand soap and hand sanitizer, including their chemical properties, surfactants, processing technologies, testing, and packaging. Before the technology demonstration, technical experts discussed the ingredients and materials, tools and equipment needed, functions of ingredients, and procedures with the participants. Right after the discussion, participants executed the step-by-step procedures with the guidance of the resource speakers.
The technical experts showed the use of personal protective equipment and appropriate manufacturing standards to demonstrate the proper mixing of surfactants. Before packaging, the products’ pH was measured to ensure consumer safety. Packaged products were put aside to allow complete solution
The training was pursued in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Tanauan
and MyBrush Technology Philippines Inc., a manufacturing solutions company
based in Tanauan City. After the training, MyBrush Technology Philippines Inc.
distributed a starter kit for liquid hand soap and hand sanitizer production to the
participants.
Tanauan City Mayor, Hon. Nelson “Sonny” P. Collantes, thanked DOST-Batangas, DOST-ITDI, and MyBrush Technology Philippines Inc. for making the training possible. He mentioned that this undertaking is a great help in establishing community enterprises for Women’s Council members from the different barangays of Tanauan City. Batangas’ Third District Representative, Congresswoman Maria Theresa V. Collantes, Tanauan City Women’s Council President, Atty. Anna Cristina V. Collantes-Garcia, and Ms. May Teresita R. Fidelino, Department Manager of Tanauan City Cooperatives and Livelihood Development Office, also partook in the activity.
