Arrested was a 32-year-old patrolman, of Bgy. Sicsican, Talavera, assigned with the Agoo, La Union Police Office.
An investigation showed the suspect was said to be a former live-in partner of the slain councilor. His whereabouts were traced using the footages of closed-circuit television (CCTV) gathered at the crime scene.
Paulino, 33, was the number one-ranked municipal councilor during the 2022 local polls in Sto. Domingo. She had already parted ways with the suspect when the attack occurred.
The victim was shot dead while driving her Hyundai Accent sedan on her way to the Guimba town proper at 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
Following the suspect’s confession, Nueva Ecija police chief Col. Richard V. Caballero Caballero said they conducted another follow-up operation at the farm house of the suspect’s parents in Bgy. Malayantoc, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija.
The follow-up operation resulted in the voluntary surrender of the suspect’s service firearm described as cal. 9mm pistol loaded with 15 live bullets.
Caballero said the recovered pieces of evidence were subjected to forensic examinations while murder charges were filed against the arrested suspect before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.
