THE Department of Agriculture (DA) in partnership with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), is set to sell its P20 per kilo rice to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families at the KADIWA ng Pangulo at the DMW Central Office in Mandaluyong City.
The initiative is a fulfillment of a promise of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the Filipino people with a dual purpose of providing quality yet affordable goods and commodities to Filipino families while ensuring rice farmers receive fair compensation for their harvests.
“Our President Marcos Jr. truly values our OFWs, our modern-day heroes in our Bagong Pilipinas. The government efforts to ensure affordable rice to Filipino households also flow to OFWs and their families, which is being felt in communities,” Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac said.
Kadiwa is one of the programs of the Marcos administration led by the DA aimed at providing consumers with access to quality yet affordable goods and commodities and facilitate the access of farmers, fishers, and microenterprises to the market.
Consumers are urged to purchase responsibly and adhere to the guidelines set by distributing outlets, ensuring that this affordable rice effectively benefits the maximum number of families, aligning with the inclusive goals of the Bagong Pilipinas.
Aside from the affordable rice for OFWs, the DMW and DA also partner in providing comprehensive support and technical assistance to prospective OFW “agri-preneurs” as part of the entrepreneurship development initiatives under the national reintegration program for OFWs and their families.
“The agricultural sector is a worthwhile business and investment opportunity for our dear OFWs. The DMW is partnering with the DA to support them as we promote agribusiness as a sustainable and viable program for the reintegration of OFWs,” Secretary Cacdac said.
