THE Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region has declared its full readiness for the implementation of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) from August 10 to 28, with all vaccines already prepositioned across the four provinces of the Ilocos Region, trained vaccination teams on standby, and government and community partners fully mobilized.
Regional Director Helen D. Tobias stated that the region’s preparedness reflects a shared commitment to protecting every child against vaccine-preventable diseases.
“We are ready. Our vaccines are already where they need to be, our health workers are prepared, and our partner agencies and volunteers are fully mobilized. Every part of the Ilocos Region is set to deliver this campaign safely and efficiently.”
She emphasized that the success of the campaign depends not only on the health sector but also on the participation of families and communities.
“No child should suffer from diseases that we can prevent through vaccination. We call on every parent and guardian to bring their eligible children for vaccination. By working together, we can close immunity gaps, prevent outbreaks, and give every child the healthy future they deserve.”
Dr. Tobias also recognized the strong collaboration among local government units, national government agencies, private partners, and academic institutions, whose support has been instrumental in ensuring the campaign’s readiness.
“This campaign is a testament to what we can achieve when government, healthcare workers, private sector, volunteers, and communities work together to protect our children.”
Measles is among the most contagious viral diseases and can lead to serious complications, particularly among young children. Rubella infection during pregnancy can cause severe birth defects. The MR-SIA aims to strengthen children’s protection, close immunity gaps, and prevent future outbreaks by reaching all eligible children with safe and effective vaccines.
Vaccination teams will conduct fixed-site vaccination activities throughout the campaign period to ensure that no eligible child is left behind. The DOH reminds parents and guardians that the measles-rubella vaccine is safe, effective, and free at government vaccination sites.
Beginning August 10, the Ilocos Region stands ready, not only with vaccines and trained health workers, but with a united commitment to ensure that every eligible child receives the protection they deserve and achieve the 95% vaccination coverage.
