JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said the evidence against Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. is very tight.
Remulla dismissed claims from the camp of Teves that there is no evidence linking him to the killing of provincial governor Roel Degamo and nine others.
According to Remulla there are numerous factual matters to consider in such a case involving over ten suspects and more than twenty victims.
The Justice secretary is confident that formal charges against Teves related to the Degamo murder will be filed this week.
Teves has denied involvement in Degamo’s killing, which occurred on March 4, and has not returned from his trip abroad.
He promised to return to the country once the threat to his life is dealt with accordingly.
According to witnesses, heavily-armed suspects wearing camouflage uniforms carried out the attack on the governor’s residence in Pamplona town.
The governor was meeting beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) when slain.
Degamo was killed 19 days after the Supreme Court declared him the winner in the contested gubernatorial race in his province.
