OFFICERS of the Knights of Rizal on Wednesday trooped to the House of Representatives (HRep) in Quezon City to commemorate the 163rd birth anniversary of the country’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal with a wreath laying ceremony at the HRep’s miniature Rizal Park.
Paul Bilaoen, Knight Grand Officer of Rizal (KGOR)-Executive Director, extolled Rizal’s pride in being a Filipino, “He understood the international qualities of him being a great man to the world and to humanity.”
Bilaoen also said that Filipinos need to become better Filipinos for the Philippines to become a better country, “We need to think of our country, of our community before ourselves. That is something we need to learn.”
He encouraged Filipinos to remember the value of national unity no matter the odds. “Just like in our Order, in fraternal union with my brother knight,” Bilaoen said.
Guilbert Sherwin Samson, Knight Officer of Rizal (KOR)-Deputy Commander, Batasan Chapter, said that the celebration of Rizal’s birth anniversary should remind Filipinos that they have a hero quality inside of them. “If there’s one chance that you can do something good for others, let’s do it then. Let’s celebrate the hero in all of us,” he said.
He commended the House leadership, especially Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Committee on Accounts chairperson and Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez, and Secretary-General Reginald Velasco for bringing to reality the Knights of Rizal -Batasan Chapter’s dream of having a mini-Rizal Park inside the very institution that granted its legislative charter.
The wreath laying ceremony was led by Knights of Rizal: Bilaoen; Thomas Antonio Ruiz, Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR)-Commander of the Batasan Chapter; Juanito Tan, KCR-NCR Area 2 Commander and Council of Leaders, Batasan Chapter; Adrian Jasper Aguilar, KCR-NCR Deputy Regional Commander; and Marc Laurence Monterde, KCR-NCR Regional Commander.
