THE House of Representatives on Wednesday held a eucharistic celebration in honor of St. Thomas More at the HRep chapel inside the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.
The holy mass was celebrated ahead of the Feast Day of St. Thomas More, which falls on June 22. The saint is also the patron saint of the HRep chapel, which was completed in 2018.
According to Director Stella Doller of the Internal Audit Bureau, Thomas More was chosen to be the patron saint of the HRep chapel “primarily because he is the Patron Saint of Parliamentarians and Civil Servants.”
Bishop Roberto Gaa told HRep’s Catholic faithful that St. Thomas More valued peace above life, “His peace was more important than his life. That is why he became a martyr, not because he was strong enough but because the peace that was in him was so strong that he was ready to forgo of everything he had even his life.”
Committee on Accounts chairperson and Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez was the main sponsor of the mass, with Deputy Secretaries General Atty. Annalou Nachura, Atty. Grace Andres, Dante Roberto Maling, Edgardo Pangilinan, Romulo Emmanuel Miral Jr., Jose Ma. Antonio Tuaño, Engr. Floro Banaybanay, Executive Director Lourdes Rajini Rye and the various HRep offices as co-sponsors.
