THE League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) has issued a strong statement condemning any actions or rhetoric that threaten the stability of the government led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The statement specifically criticized recent remarks by Vice President Sara Z. Duterte, labeling them as “unbecoming” and “deeply irresponsible.”
The LCP, which represents 149 member cities, expressed alarm over comments suggesting potential harm to government officials, including the President, the First Lady, and other key leaders. The group described such rhetoric as reckless and a grave threat to democracy and the rule of law, warning that it endangers not only the safety of public officials but also the peace and security of the nation.
In their statement, the League called for an end to inflammatory remarks and personal attacks. They emphasized the importance of addressing concerns about the Vice President’s use of public funds with professionalism and integrity, rather than resorting to divisive conduct.
“The Filipino people deserve unity and decisive action, not unnecessary and harmful bickering,” the League said. “Government officials must prioritize the welfare of the people over personal disputes.”
The LCP reaffirmed its steadfast support for President Marcos and his administration, urging all leaders to focus their energy on addressing the pressing economic and social challenges facing the country.
The statement also included a call for vigilance and protection for all public officials, particularly the First Family, against any threats to their safety. The League emphasized that any such threats would be met with the full force of the law.
As the nation grapples with critical issues, the LCP appealed to all leaders to act with wisdom, restraint, and a firm commitment to the Filipino people. “Let us work together for the betterment of our nation, upholding the principles of democracy, respect, and progress for all,” the group concluded.
