IN a sweeping crackdown against colorum vans, buses and other public utility vehicles (PUVs), operators, drivers have been levied with a total of P13.6 million in penalties for the month of December 2023.
The intensified operations were carried out by the operatives of the Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office – Philippines (LTO), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The substantial fines of P200K per van and P1M per bus imposed on offenders reflect the government’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing road safety for all commuters.
Under the direction of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, the recent campaign targeted unauthorized PUVs with the sole purpose of safeguarding the welfare of road users.
Over the course of a month, from December 01 to 16, twenty-eight (28) units deemed as colorum were impounded during the operations.
The DOTr anticipates that more illegal and unregistered vehicles will be exposed as their intensified campaign continues.
To this end, SAICT is urging the public to report any suspicious or unauthorized transportation services to the _DOTr Commuter Hotline 0920-964-3687, contributing to the overall efforts in dismantling the colorum network in the metropolis.
