THE Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the guidance of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, revoked the license of the driver in the viral video of road crash involving a trailer truck that killed three people in Marikina City.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the truck driver was also penalized with the maximum penalty for reckless driving aside from the revocation of the driver’s license.
The investigation stemmed from the incident on April 23 in Marikina City wherein a speeding truck was seen overturning and crushing three vehicles along the road. The crash left three people dead and 10 others injured.
During the investigation, Asec Mendoza said they rejected the alibi of the truck that there was a brake failure since a thorough inspection of the entire vehicle did not support his claim.
In the five-page decision, it said driving a truck requires extra caution at night and on the condition of the road, and this appeared to have not been factored in by the truck driver that resulted in the accident.
The death of three people and the extent of the damage, according to Asec Mendoza, are sufficient proof that the truck driver was guilty of reckless driving and being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
In the same decision, the truck involved in the accident was placed under alarm while all law enforcement officers are directed to apprehend the truck driver if found driving any motor vehicle.
The LTO has been aggressively pushing for road safety measures, including regular inspections of trucks passing in major thoroughfares at night.
