THERE was zero fatal casualty due to fireworks in Central Luzon while 62 firecracker victims were recorded in the region during the New Year’s eve revelry.
According to Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Cesar Pasiwen said the “zero casualty” could be attributed to the series of inspections conducted by the regional, provincial and city police among firecracker manufacturers and stores, as well as the massive information drive and campaign initiated by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Pasiwen said the zero casualty could also be a result of designating firecracker zones by the local government units and the deployment of almost 2,000 PRO3 personnel for the festivities.
“I commend the entire Central police force for a job well done, putting aside their personal convenience and comfort in exchange for a peaceful, safe and injury-free Holiday celebration. I would like also to thank our public for their continuous cooperation with us which immensely contributed to a safe merriment,” Pasiwen said.
The relentless operations by the Central Luzon police to stop the proliferation of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices during the holidays resulted to the arrest of two persons for violation of Republic Act 7183 or An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices,
Pasiwen added that no PNP and Armed Forces of the Philippines personnel in the region was involved in indiscriminate firing during the eve and the actual celebration of New Year but there was one reported incident of Illegal discharge of firearm by a civilian in San Ildefonso, Bulacan last December 26.
